Quinta da Aveleda
Just a stone’s throw from Porto and on the way to the Douro, right in the heart of the Vinhos Verdes region, lies a hidden gem—the magical Quinta da Aveleda. Stepping into this space is like taking a journey back more than 300 years of history—the story of a family that has cared for this estate as a family treasure for five generations.
Amid the greenery of rare species of century-old trees, visitors can admire the lake, the Manueline window, the tea house, and the fountains—all part of the legacy preserved within 8 hectares of Romantic gardens. Vineyards surround the entire estate, with lush neatly formed vines, and the Old Winery tells the story of aguardente (wine brandy) in a unique space dating back to 1850 and housing countless barrels. Beyond the coach house and the stables, the tour ends at the old threshing floor, with its updated architecture, with the chance to taste several wines, paired with cheeses from the estate. The store invites visitors to lose themselves and regularly sends wines to far-flung corners of the world. Time permitting, the Old Kitchen hosts workshops on bread-making in its wood-fired ovens, the garden nooks hold paint and sip sessions, and there are opportunities for wine-related activities and botanical tours, while the panoramic veranda provides the setting for meals that perfectly pair traditional Minho fare with the estate’s wines.
