Quinta de Santa Teresa - Activities and Visits

In the parish of Loivos da Ribeira, in the municipality of Baião, next to the old bridge, an estate stretches up the entire mountainside. Divided into terraces are dozens of hectares of vines most of which are of the indigenous Avesso grape variety.
As it sits on the border of the Douro region, the Quinta de Santa Teresa landscape is reminiscent of the Douro Valley. At the upper-most point  of the property, stand the original  granite markers separating the districts of Vila Real and that of Porto, and, thus, dividing the Vinho Verdes region from the Douro.

In Baião, the ancients called it "land of transition,” where "transitional Vinhos Verdes” were produced, as they came from a warmer climate, close to the hot continental climate of the Douro region, but still influenced by the cold Atlantic winds. As a result Baião has great potential for producing superior-quality white wines that are both serious and fresh, with tones of fruits and acidity. Moreover, they are both food friendly and long-lived.
A&D, which is short for Alexandre and Dialina, the project’s leaders, produces its wines here, including the Monólogos, Singular, Quinta de Santa Teresa, and Esculpido lines. All the wines are made with grapes from the property’s vineyards, which were all classified as organic in 2020. Most production uses the region’s indigenous grape varieties, Avesso and Arinto, although the brand is also becoming known for its Chardonnay.
